Got a Flat? Here’s When to Repair or Replace Your Tires

A flat tire at any time is a bad deal. However, it always seems to happen at the worst and most inconvenient times.

While spotting it amid the morning hustle is terrible, getting a flat while driving can be worse—even life-threatening. Either way, it's not an experience anyone wants to have. Yet, it's a reality that most drivers in Vermont will experience.

To Repair or Replace a Flat Tire?

At Girlington Garage, we sympathize and know there's more than one way to deal with a flat tire. In some cases, it's possible—even advisable— to repair a flat tire. Other times, your best bet is to bite the bullet and get a new set of tires. If you don't know which option to choose, you could be left at the discretion of an unscrupulous mechanic.

Fortunately, you've got honest friends at Girlington Garage. Unlike other auto repair facilities, we are a woman-owned and operated shop that specializes in open and transparent communication.Let's look at when you may need to replace your tire vs. having patch tire services.

When Tire Repair is the Right Call...

If your tires aren’t especially old, there’s a decent chance that your flat tire results from a small puncture. All kinds of road debris and sharp objects can cause one.As soon as you notice a flat, try to examine your tire to see if you can locate a puncture or other damage. If you can't, don't panic. That doesn't mean your tire's a lost cause. Sometimes, a puncture might be too small for you to see. Or it might be located on the inner half of your tire where you can't easily observe it.Either way, you need to visit the crew at Girlington Garage to sort out the problem.

I Have a Flat Tire. What Should I Do?

If you have a flat tire, one option is to remove the tire from your vehicle. You'll need to use a jack to remove the flat tire and mount the spare in its place, then bring the tire to us for a diagnosis. If the puncture is no more than ¼" in diameter and isn't in the shoulder or sidewall of the tire, we'll likely be able to patch or plug it. Doing so is one of our most popular tire services in South Burlington, VT!
